Oh the great joys of life! Lessons brought to us everyday, creating new and exciting experiences for our growth and knowledge.
I am so grateful for my new job, at Elite Care. I get to cook and create meals for some amazing people. I have been brought into a world that pushes me to maintain consistent creativity, while acknowledging dietary concerns. I now get to cook lactose, gluten and sugar free meals. Being aware of what goes into everything is so important for my residents. Learning to make things from scratch, that you may normally cheat and buy, for the convenience factor.
Researching, and truly reading and learning about what is really in food. What makes it what it is, and what it gives back to our bodies. The world of processed food, with ingredients that I can’t even pronounce, scares me! We are not even thinking twice about putting this stuff into our bodies. I sit and watch the effects of this food stuff,…. daily. We can’t just assume that illness falls out of the air. Choices have brought it on. Mental, emotional, physical choices create your body, mind and spirit. Learning to accept responsibility for what we do to our bodies everyday is so, so important, but yet pushed aside by so many of daily, even myself.
I tell my children daily to eat breakfast, don’t eat fried nasty food. Choose fruits and vegetables over other options, but yet I have a cup of coffee and call it good for most of the day!! What am I teaching my kids!!
I see these amazing souls moving from room to room, not remembering the past 10 minutes let alone there name sometimes. I get to make the choice every morning to go and create a positive part of their day by creating healthy nourishing food. Not just for there bodies, but also their minds. They count on me to be there to provide them with a moment of memory, or the chance to create a new one with a new flavor or texture. Food reminds them of what part of the day it is. It brings them aroma’s that flow through the hallways, of maybe something they had in their younger years. Thoughts and memories surface, and bring them joy, even for just a second. I see smiles and nods of curiosity, as I slice and dice in preparation for this unknown meal. The slight lean back from the table when the meal is complete, and look of content, knowing that I just nourished a soul, if only for a moment. Thoughts and words of gratitude come from each and everyone of them, even if forgotten only moments later. But, I know I am the one who gets to recreate that, at least three times a day, seven days a week.
